Feeding is the #1 thing parents worry about. Get this right and you become a hero. Today: sterilization, formula prep, breastmilk handling, safe bottle technique, and the safety rules that prevent serious illness. Let's feed babies SAFELY! 💪
Newborn immune systems are weak. A dirty bottle can cause stomach infection, vomiting, diarrhea — all dangerous for tiny bodies. Sterilizing is NOT optional in the first 6 months.
♨️Boiling methodSubmerge bottles, nipples, rings in boiling water for 5 minutes. Air dry on clean cloth.
⚡Electric sterilizerMost GCC homes have one. 8-10 min cycle. Follow manual exactly.
🧽Wash FIRSTSterilizing dirty bottles doesn't work. Soap, bottle brush, hot water FIRST.
✋Wash hands first20 seconds with soap. Air-dry on clean towel.
👶Until 6 months minimumStricter sterilization for first 6 months. After that, hot soapy water is enough.
🍼After EVERY useDon't reuse a bottle without re-sterilizing. Old milk = bacteria heaven.
⚠️
Don't touch the insideAfter sterilizing, ONLY touch the outside of bottles, the threads of nipples — NEVER the part baby will drink from. Germs from your fingers undo all the sterilizing! 🦠
🧼
2🥛 Formula Prep
Get the ratio EXACTLY right
Wrong formula ratio is dangerous. Too much water = malnutrition + low salt levels (can cause seizures). Too little water = dehydration + kidney stress. Follow the directions EXACTLY — every single time.
📏ALWAYS water first, powder secondPour water to the line, then add powder. NOT the other way around.
🥄Level scoops onlyUse the scoop INCLUDED in the can. Level off with a knife. NOT heaped.
💧Cooled boiled waterBoil tap water, cool to body temperature (~37°C). Mineral water is NOT safe — too much salt.
🤝Shake wellCap on tight. Shake until completely dissolved. Lumps = baby gets uneven dose.
⏱️Use within 1 hour at room tempWithin 24 hours in fridge (sealed). After that — throw it away.
🚫NEVER reuse leftover formulaWhatever baby doesn't finish in 1 hour = throw away. Their saliva grows bacteria.
⚠️
Check expiry & sealBefore opening: check expiry date and seal. After opening: write the date on the can. Use within 1 month or throw away. Old formula loses nutrients and grows bacteria. 🗓️

3❄️ Breastmilk
Liquid GOLD — handle with extreme care
Mama's pumped milk is precious. Hours of pumping. Every drop matters. Mishandle it and you waste her work AND make baby sick. These rules are SACRED.
🌡️Room temp = 4 hours maxFreshly pumped, sealed bottle, in a cool spot. After 4 hours — refrigerate or throw out.
❄️Fridge = 4 days maxSealed, in the back of the fridge (not door). Label with date pumped.
🧊Freezer = 6 monthsDeep freeze. Use oldest first. Thaw in fridge overnight, NOT counter.
🚫NEVER refreeze thawed milkOnce thawed = use within 24 hours. Refreezing destroys nutrients and grows bacteria.
🚫NEVER mix warm + coldAdding warm fresh milk to cold pumped milk raises the temp = bacteria. Cool first, then mix.
The 4-4-4 Rule4 hours room temp · 4 days fridge · 4 (well, 6) months freezer. Memorize it. Always smell-test thawed milk — if it smells off, throw it out. Mama would rather pump again than have baby get sick. 🤱

4🍼 Safe Feeding
Bottle technique that prevents problems
How you give the bottle matters. Wrong angle = milk into ear canal = ear infections. Wrong temperature = burned baby. Propped bottle = choking. Get the technique right.
🌡️Test on YOUR wristLukewarm = correct. If you can't feel it = perfect body temp. Too hot = wait.
🚫NEVER microwave milkHeats unevenly — hot spots burn baby's mouth. Use bottle warmer or warm water bath.
📐Hold bottle at 45 degreesMilk fills the nipple completely. Less air swallowed = less gas = less crying.
🤱Hold baby semi-uprightBaby's head higher than tummy. Reduces ear infection and reflux.
🚫NEVER prop the bottleDon't lean a pillow against the bottle. Choking risk + bonding loss + ear infections.
👀Eye contact + talkingFeeding is bonding time. Look at baby. Talk softly. Build trust.
⚠️
Paced bottle feedingTilt bottle DOWN every minute or two — let baby pause and rest. Mimics breastfeeding. Reduces overfeeding and gas. Ask any pediatrician — they LOVE this technique. 👍
