1🤸 Tummy Time

The most important exercise of infancy

Babies sleep on their backs (good!) but if they NEVER spend time on their tummies, their head flattens, neck stays weak, and crawling/walking get delayed. Tummy time fixes ALL of this.

  • 📅Start day 12-3 minutes, several times a day from birth. Baby-on-chest counts!
  • ⏱️Build up to 60 min/dayBy 3 months. Spread across day. Short sessions are fine.
  • 👀ALWAYS supervisedAwake only. NEVER tummy time alone or while sleeping.
  • 🪞Use a baby mirrorBabies LOVE seeing themselves. Motivates them to lift head.
  • 🎵Get on floor with themSing, talk, eye contact. Makes it fun, not 'work'.
  • 🤔If they HATE itTry after diaper change (not tired). Build gradually. Even 30 seconds counts.
💡
The 'tummy times': brain tooTummy time develops MORE than muscles. Babies see the world from a different angle, develop visual tracking, balance, AND language centers from looking around. Skipping it slows ALL development. 🧠
🤸
2📅 Milestones

What to celebrate — and when to mention to mama

Milestones guide us — but every child develops at their own pace. Use these as a rough map. Tell mama if a child is significantly behind in MULTIPLE areas — early help makes huge difference.

  • 👶3 months: smile, coo, hold head upEye contact strong. Reaching for things. Laughing.
  • 🍼6 months: roll, sit with support, babbleDa-da, ba-ba sounds. Holds toy. Recognizes faces.
  • 🚶9 months: crawl, stand holding furnitureSays 'mama' (any caregiver). Plays peekaboo. Pincer grip.
  • 👫12 months: first steps, 1-2 wordsWaves, points, stranger anxiety, follows simple commands.
  • 🏃18 months: walks well, 10-20 wordsPretend play. Climbs furniture. Tantrums begin (normal!).
  • 🎨2 years: 2-word phrases, runs, scribbles50+ words. Independence! Names body parts.
  • 🧒3 years: full sentences, dresses selfAsks 'why?' constantly. Plays with others. Imagines wildly.
⚠️
Red flags — tell mamaNot smiling by 4 months · Not babbling by 12 months · Not walking by 18 months · No words by 24 months · Loses skills they had. Early intervention = huge difference. Don't worry alone — share concerns! 🤝
📅
3🧸 Smart Toys

Simple beats electronic 'learning center' every time

The best toys are OPEN-ENDED — used many ways, year after year. Skip the flashing-lights-singing-numbers tablets. A wooden block beats an electronic 'learning center' every time.

  • 🍼0-6 months: rattles, mirror, contrast cardsHigh contrast (black/white/red) helps developing eyes. Soft textures.
  • 🎲6-12 months: stacking cups, soft books, ballsCause/effect toys. Teething toys. They love things they can drop and bang!
  • 🧱1-2 years: shape sorters, blocks, push toysBuilding gross motor skills. Stacking. Knocking down (yes, still fun!).
  • 🎨2-3 years: art, dolls, vehicles, puzzlesImagination explodes! Open-ended. NO right or wrong way.
  • 🚫Choking check: toilet paper rollIf toy/piece fits inside = choking hazard. Keep away from under-3s.
  • 🔋Avoid button batteries! If swallowed they BURN through stomach in hours. Keep all battery toys SECURE.
  • 🌞Best 'toy' = YOUTalking, singing, peek-a-boo, walks outside. Beats any toy ever made.
💡
Rotate, don't pileToo many toys = overwhelm. Keep 5-7 toys out at a time. Switch them weekly. Suddenly the 'old' toy is exciting again. Less plastic, more imagination! ♻️
🧸
4📺 Screen Time

Less is more — every age

Screens hijack brains. Under 2 years, screens delay language, attention, and social skills. Even older kids: too much = problems. The rules are clear. Follow them.

  • 🚫Under 18 months: NO screensExcept video calls with grandma. Their brains can't process it well.
  • 📱18-24 months: limited only30 min/day MAX. Only high-quality content. Watch WITH them.
  • 📺2-5 years: 1 hour MAXEducational programming. Co-viewing > alone. No screens during meals or before bed.
  • 🛏️NEVER screens 1 hr before bedBlue light blocks sleep hormone. Kids fall asleep slower + sleep worse.
  • 🍽️NEVER screens at mealsEating becomes mindless. Misses hunger/full cues. Family interaction lost.
  • 🎬If screen — talk about itPause, ask questions, repeat words. Active > passive watching.
  • 🚫NEVER as 'reward'Don't give screens for finishing food/being good. Creates lifelong dependence.
⚠️
Toddler tablet trapiPad babysitting feels easy but creates HORRIBLE behavior in months. Tantrums when removed, can't self-entertain, language delays. Worth the short-term struggle to keep screens minimal! 💪
