When to STOP driving
Some warnings mean STOP NOW
1🛢️ Weekly Checks

5-minute weekly check — every Friday morning

One check per week. Same day, same time. After 1 month it's automatic. Catches 80% of car problems before they cost employer money.

  • 🛢️Engine oil dipstick — pull, wipe, re-insert, readEngine OFF, cold. Open hood. Yellow handle in middle = dipstick. Pull out, wipe with cloth, push back in fully, pull out again. Oil should be between MIN and MAX marks. Below MIN? Tell employer.
  • 💧Coolant level — see-through tank, MIN/MAX marksWhite plastic tank with green/pink fluid. Should be between MIN and MAX (cold engine). Below MIN = engine overheats = expensive. Tell employer.
  • 🛞Tire pressure — gas station air pump, 30-35 PSIAll 4 tires + spare. Check when cold (morning). Use the recommended pressure (sticker on driver's door). Add air if low. Don't over-inflate.
  • 🔍Tire tread — penny test or wear barsStick a coin into tread. If you can see most of the coin, tires are too worn. Worn tires = no grip on rain. Tell employer to replace.
  • 💡Lights check — walk around, all onTurn on headlights, hazards. Walk around car. All bulbs working? Brake lights? Indicators? Bulb out = AED 200 fine if police see it.
💡
Friday morning, before the school runMake it a routine: every Friday 7 AM, before work. Check the 5 things. 5 minutes. Catches problems early. Employer notices. Friday check = trusted driver.

2⚠️ Warning Lights

Dashboard warning lights — what each means

Color tells urgency. RED = stop driving NOW. YELLOW/AMBER = problem, drive carefully, fix soon. GREEN/BLUE = info only, no action.

  • 🔴RED engine icon = STOP NOW, do not driveEngine warning red light = something is seriously wrong. Pull over safely. Engine off. Call employer + tow truck. Do NOT keep driving — you'll destroy the engine.
  • 🌡️RED temperature = engine overheatingRed thermometer icon = engine too hot. STOP within 1 minute. Park. Engine off. Wait 30 min. Call employer. Continuing = warped engine = AED 30,000 repair.
  • 🛢️RED oil can = critical low oil pressureRed oil can shape. Means engine has no oil pressure = engine will SEIZE in minutes. STOP. Engine off. Call. Don't 'drive home' — engine dies en route.
  • 🔋RED battery = battery/alternator failingRed battery icon = car is running on battery alone, no recharge. Drive home/to shop NOW (before battery dies). Phone charger on. Engine running. Get there fast but safe.
  • AMBER check engine = drive home, tell employerYellow engine icon = problem but not critical. Drive home (safely, slowly). Tell employer. They'll book mechanic.
💡
When in doubt — pull over, callAny red light, any unusual sound, any smell — pull over to safe spot. Engine off. Call employer: 'Madam, red light came on. I stopped. What should I do?' They prefer that 100x over you destroying the car. Stop = safe = trusted.
⚠️
3🛑 When to STOP

5 situations: pull over IMMEDIATELY

These warnings mean continuing = serious damage or death. Don't 'try to make it home'. Don't 'drive slowly'. Stop within 60 seconds.

  • 🔴Red engine warning + temperature gauge in redEngine overheating. STOP NOW. 1 more minute = engine destroyed.
  • 💨Smoke or steam from hoodSmoke = fire risk. Steam = severe overheat. PULL OVER. Engine OFF. Get out + walk 10m away. Call fire dept (998 UAE / 998 Saudi).
  • 🛞Sudden tire blowout — felt as steering pullTire blew. Hold wheel firmly. Don't slam brakes. Slow gradually. Pull over. Engine off. Call for help. Don't try to drive on a flat — destroys the wheel rim.
  • Strong fuel smell while drivingFuel leak = fire risk. Pull over immediately. Engine off. Walk away from car. Don't smoke. Call employer + fire dept.
  • 🛑Brakes feel soft / sinking pedalBrake fluid leaking = brakes about to fail completely. Use hazard lights. Pump brakes gently. Pull over. Stop. Don't drive. Call tow.
💡
Better embarrassed than deadSometimes drivers feel 'embarrassed' to stop on the highway. Don't. Hazard lights + pull over + walk away from car if smoke. Your life > car > job > pride. Always stop when warning is serious.
